"Indeed, the rage of theorists to make constitutions a vehicle for the conveyance of their own crude, and visionary aphorisms of government, requires to be guarded against with the most unceasing vigilance."
     -- Joseph Story
Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States
     Book III, § 1857.

InstaPundit is unimpressed by Bush's carrier landing. I didn't see the thing myself; for all I know it was as hokey as Reynolds apparently thinks. Still, though, the impression I get -- from this and a lot of other things -- is that, when it comes to the National stage, Reynolds is addicted to his own jadedness. It would not occur to him, in such a context, to just shut up and appreciate the moment; indeed, he would want to make sure to be on record as not appreciating. The last thing a cynic wants is for someone -- anyone -- to think he just might value something after all.
